Project Overview
The Karot Hydropower Project (KHP) is a joint Chinese and Pakistani river-flow power dam, the fourth of five planned steps of the Jhelum River in Pakistan. The dam site is located one kilometer upstream of the Karot Bridge in Pakistan's Punjab province. The main body of the project consists of a bituminous core wall rock dam, spillway, diversion tunnel, underground plant, surface sub plant, tailwater tunnel, dam cofferdam, and three diversion tunnels. This is the first investment project of the Silk Fund, part of the larger China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. On the afternoon of May 12, 2022 local time in Pakistan, Unit 2 of Karot Hydropower Plant successfully completed its 168-hour trial run and was officially connected to the grid with Unit 1.
